Sf. Spiridon Nou (Saint Spyridon the New Church) orthodox cathedral is one of the 6 metropolitan cathedrals in Romania and the biggest church in Bucharest. Built in 1859, it represents a beautiful example of old architecture, mixing Neo-Gothic and Neo-Byzantine styles.
The church was heavily damaged in the massive 1940 earthquake and during the 1944 bombardments of Bucharest. It was restored in the 1950’s.
