Cetatuia Negru-Voda is located in Arges county in the south of Romania (historical Vallachia province), built on the site of an ancient citadel provided by the perfect location. The rocks and caves carry carved symbols from pre-Christian era.
Near the hermitage is “The Thracian rider” or the Danubian horseman, one of the pre-Christian carvings. The pagan cult developed in southern Romania and was adopted by the Christian church as Saint George (Sf. Gheorghe in Romania), one of the many pre-Christian cults that were given Christian meaning.
