At an altitude of 1600 meters (5200 feet) above the valley lies the hermitage of Arsenie Boca, Romanian monk
Arsenie Boca, reputed monastic figure of XXth century. He was arrested, jailed and harassed all throughout his life by the communist authorities. He was also connected to anti-communist partisans who were hiding in Fagaras mountains. His Fagaras hermitage remains today a place of pilgrimage.
